GMRS Linking Debate

This post idea came from a post on a Face Book forum called GMRS Radio Questions and Information. Of course being a GMRS FB forum it is nothing but trolls. I think the original post was to call people out on their opinion and roast them no matter what they say. So in the drama of FB land their is a bit of Ham Purists VS GMRS Purists debate.

What is the "GMRS Linking Issue"?

FCC Regulations: According to the FCC, GMRS stations cannot be directly interconnected with telephone networks or any other network for the purpose of carrying GMRS communications. This includes Internet-based linking.

Clarifications and Updates: The FCC has provided additional clarifications on their website, emphasizing that linking GMRS repeaters via the internet is not allowed.

Enforcement: While the rules are clear, enforcement has been inconsistent. Some GMRS repeater networks have continued to operate linked systems without facing penalties.

Community Response: The GMRS community has had mixed reactions. Some argue that linking enhances communication range and utility, while others stress the importance of adhering to FCC regulations.

Using a Multi Meter to Measure Amps

To use a digital multimeter (DMM) to measure direct current (DC) amps, or amperes, in a circuit, you can try these steps:

Read the manual: Understand how to safely use your specific model.

Plug in the leads: Insert the red lead into the 10 amps port and the black lead into the COM port.

Turn it on: Turn on the multimeter and set it to current mode.

Select the range: Choose the appropriate range for your application. If you're not sure what the current value is, you can start with the 10 amps port and then switch to a lower range if the value is under 200 milliamps.

Break the circuit: Connect the DMM to the circuit so it becomes part of it, breaking the circuit and forcing the current to flow through the multimeter. For example, if you're measuring the current on a breadboard, you can break the circuit by moving the resistor lead over a couple of rows.

Take the reading: You should now get a reading.
